Where's Your Head At?

This week Nigel is joined by a very special guest and we're talking hypnosis.

Yes, you read that right - hypnosis.

BUT... this is in no way 'woowoo', fluff or puff.

Prepare to be mesmerised!

Episode 15:
Where's Your Head At?
00:00 / 00:00

Episode Transcript:

Nigel Botterill:
Hi, welcome to Business Growth Central where this week you've caught me on a Zoom call. And I'm going to introduce the person that I'm with in a moment or two. But first I need to give you some context to this, because it's that time of year now. We're heading towards Christmas and the New Year. Hallelujah, 2020's out of the way. Surely, 2021 is going to be better, better for everyone! Except what I've learned over the last 11 years, now that we've been running Entrepreneur Circle, is that for most business owners next year will turn out pretty much like this one. I mean, please God, there's no pandemic, but actually their outcome won't be markedly different.
And something happened. It's like a switch is flicked. Something happens to the businesses that soar and flourish. And the lady I've got on the end of this Zoom call, well, she understands what it is that flips that switch.
How's that for an introduction, Sheila Granger?
Sheila Granger:
That sounds perfect.
Nigel Botterill:
Just explain what your core business is, Sheila. Because you have had a big impact on a lot of people's lives.
Sheila Granger:
So my core business is about changing how people think, what's going on in our head, because what's going on between our ears is the one thing that changes everything. When we change how we think about food, when we change how we think about our business, when we get rid of negative self-talk, everything can change. I've noticed it's the same businesses, there is some block that stops people for whatever reason moving forward. So they end up with the same sales every single year. They want it, we want the change. We want to be better. We soak up lots of knowledge and information to make it happen, but something stops us at the final haggle.
Nigel Botterill:
So what causes this? Why have we got blockages in our heads, Sheila?
Sheila Granger:
Well, on some level, we've got some more unhelpful programming having been put in our minds, and often from a young age. Like, I'm a... Some people say, well, I'm a hypnotist, so I do the, "Three, two, one, back in the room." But really, what is a hypnotist? A hypnotist is an influencer of people's behavior. We've all got hypnotists in our life. We've had hypnotists in our life from a really young age. Our parents were hypnotists.
Nigel Botterill:
Were they?
Sheila Granger:
"Eat it all up! You can't leave the table till you're finished. Eat it all up, you'll be a big boy." And our parents are right, everything they say comes to fruition, doesn't it? We can't leave food on the plate, we'll become a really big boy because our parents have told us so. So we have people said, "Oh, you'll never be able to do that." Even though we know we can, somebody else is far more influential to us. So on some level we've got some kind of own helpful programming that's gone on in our head that no matter how much we want something consciously, there's something underneath that that's rolling in the background that's stopping us taking that leap.
Nigel Botterill:
Wowee. There'll be some people watching this now that'll be worried about me and go, "Oh, Nigel. He's gone all woo-woo talking to a hypnotist. That's not going to fix anything."
Sheila Granger:
You can just share that secret of your success.
Nigel Botterill:
I see. Just to be clear at this point, I've never actually been hypnotized or been... I don't think that's ever happened, but what I have seen and I'm very aware of are the blockages in here, which is what this is really all about, isn't it? But how do we reprogram it? You talk about programming and code and stuff in our heads. How do we change it, Sheila?
Sheila Granger:
We've all got different parts of our personality, even you Nigel. We have different parts, and some parts of the day, it's almost like, "The best version of me turns up and rocks up. I have high energy and I've got lots of positive vibes and I get lots of positive vibes back." And other mornings, Monday mornings normally, I could wake up and say, "Humph." If you think as the athlete, the sports person, they work on their nutrition. They work on their physical training, they have a physical coach to get them there. But the other thing that they recognize is the mental side of it, if you like. The programming of their mind to make sure that they are programed to be focused on the right things.
Nigel Botterill:
So you've got a program that you're pulling together, haven't you? I love this. It's called It's a Head Thing, which is true, yeah? And this is aimed at business owners. Yeah?
Sheila Granger:
Absolutely, business owners.
Nigel Botterill:
Yeah, and it's business owners who have got knowledge and probably have also got rational understanding, but are struggling to get the results that they want.
Sheila Granger:
Yeah, so what this program is going to do is pull together the knowledge that we've got, the plan, but also the emotional blocks for success, put all the parts together.
Nigel Botterill:
Okay. And what you're looking for ideally is a dozen or 15 [EC 00:05:50] members that are watching this, that would just like to go through this program free of charge, no cost, just as part of your... I don't know what you would call it, really? Pilot group. That's what it is, isn't it? It's a little pilot group.
Sheila Granger:
Yeah. I do ongoing research all the time with mindset stuff if you like, but because I recognize it so much in business owners, I wanted to put together an added piece of research on this.
Nigel Botterill:
Okay. So what will happen if you get to these dozen or so people? What will happen? What process will they go through?
Sheila Granger:
So they would be invited to a four-session program.
Nigel Botterill:
Okay.
Sheila Granger:
So it's going to be-
Nigel Botterill:
Is that as a group?
Sheila Granger:
As a group, [inaudible 00:06:36] as a group because what we recognize, other people recognize in ourselves. So it's actually good to... So there'll be no necessarily really personal details that are shared. And of course, I'd be available with one-on-one with people, but generally it's going to be a group program. There's going to be... Held it on Zoom. And each session's about an hour. The important thing with anything, though, is we've got to commit to do something. So there is some, if you like, not woo-woo, mind strategies that ask people to think about practicing, because whatever we practice, we become really good at. So if we practice with, not our work, but we can't get our business to that point, we can't get our business to that point.
Nigel Botterill:
Yes.
Sheila Granger:
So we've go to kind of practice just like the athletes. This is about expanding that growth mindset and keeping ourselves in the right lane with it as well.
Nigel Botterill:
Okay. So personally I would say this program is going to help people identify and smash through their own blockages, as it were. It'll change their own inner model, the programming in their head that you talked about around money and success. And when it's successful on their end, they'll find that they're able to actually grow to the place that actually they've probably for quite a long time wanted to grow to. That's what it is. And that's quite a big promise, Sheila, and that's going to come from four one-hour group sessions.
Sheila Granger:
Yes.
Nigel Botterill:
Over the course of what? The next four or five weeks?
Sheila Granger:
Yes, yes.
Nigel Botterill:
It's very deep this, ain't it? For a business growth central. Lots of EC members today. Now their mind are now starting to turn to what 2021 is going to be all about. How is it going to pan out for you and your business? What can I achieve? What should my targets be? Where should I set my goals?
And for 15 lucky people that are up for this, and the only criteria is you must commit. Sheila's going to have these four meetings or four sessions on Zoom over five or six weeks. And you just need to commit to attend all four and be part of this group that will fuel the research that Sheila's doing. You will get and reap the benefits on the back of that. No money is changing hands, so in that regard, it's the commitment. That is the price you've got to pay. And the prize for that price, and potentially for some, most, all of our volunteers will be very significant.
Presenter:
Listen to the sound of my voice. If you want to get involved, a link will magically appear. Oh, hang on. But seriously, it is a great opportunity to get involved. All you need to do is commit and you can read the benefits. You might feel that the system isn't for you, you might look a bit silly, but check this out.
Sheila Granger:
And although you think you've not been hypnotized before, look at the back of your hands for me, just look at the back of your hands. Where are you driving it? Is it down a country lane or...
Nigel Botterill:
Ooh, I'm going very fast, Sheila. I'm going very fast.
